Thesis Midterm and Project Timeline

Writer: Alexis SandersAlexis Sanders

Write about your experience with your midterm presentation and be honest. Did you prepare adequately? What do you need to focus on for the next 5 weeks?

I felt pretty prepared for my midterm presentation, but I wish I would have been further along in my project and designs because I still feel like I'm in the stage of designing and completely figuring out what I want to make and it showed in my presentation. The actual presentation didn't take long to create and design, I just need to figure out all the design systems and the more specific game mechanics before I can truly present the game the way I want it to be presented. I really appreciated all the feedback that I received in my presentation as that helped me see all the different things that should be thought about in game design. This is one of the things that I definitely needed more help with and the feedback I received led me in a better direction than where I was. Over the next 5 weeks, I want to use the feedback to continue figuring out exactly what I want my game to be as this is something that I'm struggling with. I want to continue iterating out game ideas and working on the specific game mechanics to work out all the details in the game.

Create a production timeline that encompasses the remainder of the Spring semester and the Summer session. Break this down into the following categories and post to thesis journal:

  • Continued research (references, experts, conversations, reflections on previous research)

  • Design & development

  • User testing

  • Iteration & continued production

  • Documentation & presentation

April 6th-13th: finish research, conduct some interviews with experts, start prototyping a design for my game

April 13th-27th: start creating a useable prototype to start user testing and start getting feedback on my game

April 20th: have a basic useable prototype for the "Show-A-Thing" show to start getting feedback on my design

April 27th-May 30th: use feedback from user testing to continue iterating and designing a prototype for my game, start designing final iteration of design

June 1st-June 22nd: gather all documentation and start working on a presentation, finish final iteration
